Many Birmingham City fans have been sharing their frustration on social media after suffering their first loss in 11 Championship fixtures in this past weekend’s clash with Reading.
The Blues saw their 10-game unbeaten Championship run come to a halt on Saturday as they suffered a 3-1 loss to Reading. The end of The Blues’ recent unbeaten Championship run was marred with controversy as many Birmingham City fans have been sharing their view that their side fell victim to some unjust refereeing in Saturday’s fixture.
Many Birmingham City supporters felt that their side were denied a penalty when 16-year-old Blues star Jude Bellingham was “hauled down in the box”, with Reading leading the game by two goals to one.
Bellingham himself had his say on the controversial call on social media after the game. The 16-year-old Blues midfielder took to Twitter to state that the official made an error in missing “such an obvious foul”, which ultimately cost him and his side “a chance to get back into that game”.
Andy Davies, the official who was in charge of Saturday’s Championship clash between Birmingham City and Reading, has been slated on social media by some Blues supporters following this fixture. Read the critical posts from some Birmingham City fans regarding the refereeing of Saturday’s game in the tweets below.
Should Birmingham City have received a penalty versus Reading?YES, BIRMINGHAM WERE ROBBED OF A PENALTYNO, BIRMINGHAM SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN GIVEN A PENALTY |
Referee at St Andrews today was poorest i have seen for some time- Blues should have sewed game up in 1st 20 mins- Poor goals to concede – i thought it was penalty in 2nd half but want to see it again- 1st defeat in 11 league games -but have to defend better #BCFC

Completely agree Tom! I’m used to seeing bad refs now but he seemed even worse than normal

Should have been 2 penalties Tom? Twice we had players pulled over in the box. Morrison was manhandling Juke all game and he got nothing. 2/3 times at least Juke was sandwiched between 2+ players at a time with at least 1 of pulling his shirt. Shambolic hope #PGMOL take a look.

Tom, it is the same every week. Surely there should be some sort of invesigation into this as it is so blatent and widely known now or Is this what we have to put up with now for the foreseeable future of the club?

Well it wasn’t just me then….not a conspiracy guy. But if the EFL can’t do you one day……

Absolutely bang on.
It almost feels like the @EFL didn’t get their punishment so the referee is helping them get back at us. Today was by far the worst!
— Mark Yates™ (@twelvty) March 7, 2020
The @EFL can’t deduct us points via FFP so they’re using the refs to do it for them.

It was a definite penalty from where we are in the kop Tom and then they go on to score from it ?

What do we think?
Saturday’s controversial penalty decision became the latest in a line of refereeing decisions that have drawn the ire of some Blues supporters in recent weeks.
On Thursday the 27th of February, the Spaniard publically called for VAR to be introduced to the Championship after claiming that his side would be “much higher up the table” if The Blues hadn’t been denied points by controversial refereeing decisions this season.
Furthermore, just last weekend, following their 2-2 draw with QPR, Clotet stated that The Blues were victims of unjust refereeing once again, as he claimed that Scott Hogan “should have had a penalty”, before stating that his team have gotten “used to” refereeing decisions not going their way by now.
With The Blues’ manager sharing his frustration at multiple refereeing decisions going against his side in recent weeks, it may be understandable why some Birmingham City fans have been fuming on social media in the wake of Bellingham’s penalty call not being awarded to them in Saturday’s loss to Reading.
