Some Birmingham City fans have been reacting positively to a recent tweet from the club’s manager Pep Clotet, in which the 42-year-old Spaniard claims that the Blues’ “second goal away at Boro” is his pick for Birmingham City’s ‘goal of the season’.

Birmingham City played Middlesbrough away on the 21st of January, in a Championship game which resulted in a 1-1 draw. However, the Blues were “controversially denied a late winning goal” in this game, after a late Lukas Jutkiewicz winner ultimately didn’t stand as the referee “had already stopped play seconds earlier”.

After this game, Clotet claimed that this goal should have stood, stating that both teams “kept playing”. The Spaniard also shared his frustration with the Middlesbrough bench in his post-match comments, accusing them of “(storming) the pitch to try and stop the game”, as reported by the BBC.

The Birmingham boss recently answered some questions from Birmingham fans on Twitter. One Blues fan asked the Spaniard to name his Birmingham City “goal of the season”, which the Blues boss responded to by stating that Birmingham’s “second goal away to Boro” has been his favourite goal of the 2019/20 campaign. This prompted a jovial reaction from some Blues fans, who saw the humorous side of Clotet’s statement.

Clotet has publically criticised the refereeing of some Birmingham City games this season. The Spaniard has previously claimed that if VAR was used in the Championship, his side “would be much higher up the table”.

Considering how vocal the Blues boss has been with his criticism of some refereeing decisions this season, it may be understandable why some Blues fans have been reacting positively to his recent humorous tweet regarding his choice for ‘goal of the season’.
