Some Birmingham City supporters have reacted negatively to the news that 33-year-old Youssouf Mulumbu played a full part of the Blues’ recent U23 clash with Crewe Alexandra, having been training with the club for the past couple of weeks.
The former Paris Saint-Germain, West Brom and Norwich City midfielder is currently a free agent, as confirmed by Birmingham City’s post regarding the 33-year-old’s participation in the Blues’ recent U23s fixture. Mulumbu was most recently on Celtic’s books, however, the DR Congo international was released by the Scottish club this past summer, with the player remaining without a club since.
Mulumbu may be impressing during his trial run with the Championship club at the moment, with the Blues’ official website stating that the 33-year-old helped by “largely controlling the centre of midfield” in Monday’s U23 fixture, alongside the likes of 20-year-old Caolan Boyd-Munce.
Some Birmingham City supporters were less enthusiastic about the potential interest from their club in the 33-year-old midfielder. Read the negative reactions of some Blues fans to Mulumbu’s involvement with the club in the tweets below.

Poor free signing imo and offers very little. I’d rather youth given a chance as not championship standard anymore.

I can’t understand it myself you let Davis go out on loan and then bring someone in that’s not match fit ????

What do we think?
According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Mulumbu has made a total of just 15 first-team appearances since the beginning of the 2018/19 season, making three appearances for Celtic in that time, with another 12 appearances coming during a loan spell with Kilmarnock which lasted from January to June 2019.
Mulumbu’s lack of consistent first-team football in recent seasons may make it difficult for him to make a significant contribution for Birmingham City. While Mulumbu has got English top-flight experience under his belt, due to his previous spells with West Brom and Norwich City, it may be fair to say that the 33-year-old has failed to show that he can still consistently perform at that level in recent years.
