Former Scotland international Alan Hutton has talked about Kristoffer Ajer’s links with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Ajer, 21, was recently linked with a move to Spurs after his agent had told NTB (via Sporten) that he is set to leave Parkhead at the end of the season. He went onto say that he will not renew his deal with Celtic.

Is Ajer good enough for Tottenham?

I think he is

Recently, Hutton was talking to FootballInsider247 and he talked about these links. He said:

“Oof, that’s a massive step up. That’s a huge jump. I don’t know him personally, I don’t know him or his personality but what I do know is he’s been a solid player for Celtic.

“Whether, look, I always think when agents are talking too much, a lot comes from the agent, there’s a lot of chat put in the press to try and rustle something up.

“On the flipside we know Tottenham’s problems and where they’re lacking. It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re looking at a lot of options for the defensive side of it.”

Milan also linked

Serie A giants AC Milan have also been linked with a move for Ajer by Italian outlet Calciomercato. The same report had said that Borussia Dortmund and Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City are also looking at the Norwegian defender.

Another Italian outlet in Tuttsport (via MilanNews) had recently stated that Milan indeed are interested in Ajer. They also went onto say that some other European clubs are interested in him.

TIF Tactics

If the reports cited above are to be believed, many clubs are after Ajer. That could help Celtic in getting the best deal by possibly triggering a bidding war between the likes of Spurs, Milan and Dortmund. That could help them in getting a good yield out of a possible sale.

Ajer’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2022, meaning Celtic could sell him at a high value anyway. And if they get good money from his sale, they can replace him easily in the summer.
