To kick off this quiz on what happened with West Ham last week, which out-of-contract striker did many Hammers fans air they would hate to be signed late in the week?

Would you welcome Dimitri Payet back if he was ever to return to West Ham?

No, he burned his bridges

Yes, he's too good to not

Yes, he's too good to not

The 33-year-old attacker was a West Ham player for one and a half seasons, having arrived from and departed for Ligue 1 club Olympique Marseille (per Transfermarkt).

While in London, the attacker featured in 60 appearances for the Hammers, during which he bagged 15 goals and 23 assists (per Transfermarkt) and the club’s latest post had fans missing their former man.

One fan even suggested that the world would have imploded if Eden Hazard had replicated Dimitri Payet’s highlight reel, which suggests that they feel the Frenchman was underrated during his time at the London Stadium, with Peter Reid even highlighting two of his underrated features back in 2016.

However, comparing Dimitri Payet and Eden Hazard isn’t really fair, as the former only featured in 60 games, producing 15 goals and 23 assists, whereas the Belgian made over 300 appearances and netted 112 goals, as well as providing 92 assists for his team-mates in Europe and domestically.

What do we think?

While the Frenchman left London under a cloud (per The Guardian) it is clear to see that the attacker still has a lot of respect from supporters and they would love to see him back.

During this season, Payet has featured in 27 games in all competitions for his Ligue 1 club, during which he has scored 12 and assisted six (per Transfermarkt). Proving that his abilities are not waining with age.
