Spurs fans have been discussing former left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto after LastWordonSpurs wished him a Happy 36th Birthday.
LastWordonSpurs shared some footage, originally posted by the Premier League on Twitter, to help celebrate the Cameroonian’s birthday. In his time at the North London club, the defender would make 205 appearances for the Lilywhites; scoring four goals and providing ten assists.
He then left the North London club to sign on loan for QPR in 2013, before eventually retiring after a spell with FC Metz in 2018. The defender is well-remembered for an interview with the Guardian in 2010 when he admitted that he didn’t enjoy playing football and only did it for the money.

A better left back than any we have at the club at the moment. Not loved by all of the fans but I always thought he was decent.

The majority of these Spurs fans seem to rate Assou-Ekotto, although one fan suggested that he was worse than Serge Aurier, which seems a strange claim when he has been Spurs’ third-best performer in the Premier League so far this season.
What do we think?
Assou-Ekotto was certainly an interesting character but still seems to have impressed a lot of Spurs fans across his 205 appearances for the club.
