In a Q and A session with Spurs fans, Football.London journalist Rob Guest has discussed where he sees Steven Bergwijn featuring in the Lilywhites side in the future.
A Spurs fan enquired where the Dutch international would play once South Korean winger Heung-Min Son is back fit, having been out with a fractured arm since February. Guest replied, saying:
“We’ve only seen Bergwijn and Son on the pitch together on two occasions since the Dutchman joined from PSV.
Bergwijn did play on the left in both of those games and you would think that he will continue there once everybody is fully fit and firing again.
Although it’s not his favoured side, Son did play on the right and that’s where he may end up if the January signing is to start on the left.
The good thing about both players is that they are very versatile and can play on either flank, thus giving Mourinho plenty of options.
We’ll get more of an idea of their future positions once Son, Bergwijn and Harry Kane are back on the pitch together.” per Football.London (15:55)

Since joining from PSV in the January transfer window, Bergwijn has featured five times in the Premier League; contributing two goals and averaging a 6.96 rating. The 22-year-old was injured during Spurs’ last Premier League game against Burnley and had looked set to miss the rest of the season until it was announced that the Premier League had been suspended due to the current viral outbreak.
However, with it still up in the air as to when top-flight football will return, it suddenly seems a possibility that Jose Mourinho could have a fully fit squad available for the remaining fixtures. This then poses the question as to where Bergwijn/Son will play, with both players favouring a position on the left-wing. Guest suggests that it could be Son who moves over to the right, in order to accommodate Spurs’ January signing.
It will be interesting to see how Mourinho sets his team up, should the Premier League actually resume this season.
