Spurs fans have been discussing some quotes from Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier in the wake of Atletico Madrid’s 3-2 win against Liverpool.
The England international spoke to media following Atletico Madrid’s impressive 3-2 win at Anfield and his quotes were shared with Spurs fans by LastWordonSpurs, after being originally posted by Tottenham News. The 29-year-old explained why it was a ‘no-brainer’ to leave Spurs to join ‘one of the biggest teams in the world’ in Atletico Madrid.
The former Burnley man left the North London club during the summer transfer window and has impressed for Diego Simeone’s side since; averaging a 7.02 rating for his performances in La Liga. During his time with Spurs; the right-back made 114 appearances; contributing two goals and 24 assists.
Who would you rather have starting at right-back?
Trippier
Aurier
Reaction from Spurs fans to Trippier’s quotes can be seen in the tweets below.
Another Levy masterstroke to get rid of him and replace with his backup – a player who Poch and everyone at the club had deemed woefully inadequate two seasons ago.
But ENIC have the best interests of the club at heart right? #THFC #LevyOut #EnicOut— AstroMcFly (@Astromcfly_82) March 12, 2020

he deserves his success. Tottenham and some of our fans used him as a scape goat- instantly forgetting how good he was for us, then his World Cuo heroics which led to injury set backs and stuttering form – even at his worst he was still better then Aurier

This along with other social media was full of bile towards him

He left cos things were going on in the background at spurs, so he didn’t like it and jumped off

These Spurs fans don’t seem to have any hard feelings towards Trippier, with a few fans suggesting that they failed to replace him.
What do we think?
Although Serge Aurier has impressed at times this season; averaging a 7.18 rating for his performances in the Premier League, perhaps Spurs should have tried to keep hold of Trippier to provide some more competition for the right-back spot.
