Spurs fans have been discussing some quotes from Mauricio Pochettino regarding last year’s Champions League final defeat against Liverpool.
The Argentinian manager discussed the final on Jake Humphrey’s The High Performance podcast, saying (via The Spurs Web): “We were better than Liverpool, I can say that, we deserved more, we proposed, I think we dominated. It was our responsibility that we lost, we can’t change the referee’s decision, I’m still thinking about it. The chapter was done after the final.”
Despite losing the final 2-0, Spurs did enjoy significantly more possession than Jurgen Klopp’s side and had more shots on goal, but unfortunately for the North London club, Mohamed Salah’s early penalty coupled with Divock Origi’s late finish meant that it would be the team from Merseyside who claimed the trophy.
Do you think Spurs were the better side in the Champions League final?

We could still be playing that final now and we still wouldn’t have scored.

We didn’t use our chances, they did. Simple as that.

We’d have won that game if that clown started Lucas instead of Kane

He actually lost his mind back there

We definitely weren’t better than Liverpool

Poch has got this one wrong. Liverpool scored after a few seconds, pretty sure we didn’t create any meaningful chances for the rest of the half.
Ultimately, it was a poor performance by us in the worst Champions League final to date.

These Spurs fans certainly don’t seem to agree with Pochettino’s quotes about the Champions League final.
What do we think?
The stats from the final seem to back up Pochettino’s point, but unfortunately for him, his side weren’t able to take their chances and prevented the former Southampton man from winning what would have been his only trophy during his time at the club.
