Spurs fans have been discussing Gedson Fernandes’ performance in the penalty defeat against Norwich City in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.
The on-loan midfielder was introduced as a second-half substitute in the game against Daniel Farke’s side and looked to impress, earning a 7.6 rating from WhoScored for his performance. The 21-year-old had five shots and completed eight dribbles during his time on the pitch, providing the North London club with some attacking impetus. However, he would miss the decisive penalty in the shootout to send the Canaries through to the next round.
Since joining from Benfica during the January transfer window, the midfielder has been limited to just two starts for Jose Mourinho’s side, so fans haven’t had much chance to get a look at the Portuguese U21 international. Following the game, Spurs fan Chris Miller posted about the midfielder’s performance, which has garnered a lot of responses from fellow supporters of the North London club.
Do you think Fernandes was poor against Norwich?

But he massacred every chance on goal he had. His technical ability is worrying for a pro baller

Gedson is absolutely dreadful.
Benfica fans were right about him— Aidan (@Aidan63499469) March 5, 2020
He is shocking. Stop trying to defend him. Final ball poor, shooting poor, don’t even start me about the penalty. He’s pants

These Spurs fans clearly don’t agree that Fernandes had a good game and seem to think that he has been a poor signing so far.

What do we think?
Although he didn’t trouble the scoreline, the fact that the 21-year-old had five shots after coming on suggests that he did have a positive impact going forward, although his penalty was awful (3:37 in the video), which is perhaps why so many fans were quick to criticise the £13.5 million-rated man.
