Football.london journalist Rob Guest ran a Q&A session with Spurs fans earlier this week, in which he discussed the future of Troy Parrott.

One fan enquired about whether Jose Mourinho will play the 18-year-old when the Premier League resumes, to which Guest replied, suggesting that it would be “very tough for the frontman.”

How well can you remember these obscure Spurs players? - Who is this?

He also wrote (per Football.London): “It’s very hard to see Troy Parrott getting a good run in the team before the end of the Premier League season.

“Whereas a few weeks ago, there was no Harry Kane and Son Heung-min available due to injury, the duo will be hoping to be back on the pitch once football finally resumes.

“Given Jose Mourinho was reluctant to play the youngster when he had no strikers available, you would have to say his chances will be even harder to come by once the pair return.

“You’ve got to remember he’s only 18 and his time on the pitch will come when the boss feels it’s right.

“Parrott has an extremely bright future ahead of him and the key to playing regularly for Spurs will be to work incredibly hard in training and catch Mourinho’s eye.”

Do you think Parrott will be given more opportunities next season?

TIF Tactics:

So far this season, the Republic of Ireland international has made just four appearances for Spurs, featuring as a late substitute against Burnley, Wolves and their FA Cup clash with Norwich City, as well as earning a start under Mauricio Pochettino in the Carabao Cup defeat against Colchester earlier this season.

His lack of appearances is perhaps surprising when you consider his impressive goalscoring record with the various youth teams at the north London club, as well as the long-term injury suffered by first-choice striker Harry Kane. However, with the youngster missing his penalty in the penalty-shootout defeat against Norwich, Jose Mourinho is perhaps justified in his reasoning behind not giving him a chance.

Parrott was rewarded with a new long-term contract earlier in the season, which suggests that he is still part of the club’s long-term plans and perhaps next season he will be given more of an opportunity to prove that he can be a realistic backup to Kane in Mourinho’s squad.
