In his latest article for Football.London, Alasdair Gold has suggested that Jan Vertonghen will almost certainly leave the club this summer.

He writes that “Danny Rose, Jan Vertonghen and Juan Foyth could all move on this summer, as could Kyle Walker-Peters, which means almost an entire new backline needs to be brought in to provide depth and compete with those left.” per Football.London.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Since joining from Ajax in 2012, the Belgian centre-back has made 311 appearances for the North London club; scoring 14 goals and providing seven assists. However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and no new deal currently on the horizon, it looks as if the 32-year-old’s time at the club is quickly coming to an end.

TIF Tactics:

Vertonghen admitted earlier this month that he has considered a move back to the Netherlands to join Ajax, so at this moment in time that looks like a likely destination for the defender. Despite his performances earning him spots in the PFA Team of the Year in 2012/13 and 2017/18, Spurs were unable to win a trophy during his eight years at the club, which will no doubt come as some disappointment to both the fans and the Belgian international.

Are you disappointed that Vertonghen is likely to be leaving?

Considering that the experienced defender has made 19 appearances in the Premier League this season; averaging a respectable 6.85 rating, it is perhaps a surprise that the club seems unwilling to hand him a new deal. However, with the emergence of 20-year-old Japhet Tanganga and Toby Alderweireld having committed his future to the club earlier this season, perhaps Mourinho feels he has enough options in defence.
