Fans of Newcastle United have been reacting to Federico Fernández’s post on Twitter, in which the 31-year-old states his delight at extending his contract with the club.
Fernández, who arrived at Newcastle from Swansea in 2018, has made 23 Premier League appearances so far this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
The £6.3 million-rated central defender has averaged an impressive WhoScored match rating of 6.84 in his league appearances for Newcastle this term, currently ranking him as the Magpies’ joint fifth-best performer of the season.
In recognition of his good performances, the club recently activated a one-year extension clause in Fernández’s contract, meaning that the Argentine will remain at St. James’ Park until at least the end of the 2020/21 season.
In reaction to the news, Newcastle fans took to Twitter, with many sending their congratulations to the centre-back, while others complimented the 31-year-old’s performances for the Magpies this term.

What do we think?
Fernández has clearly impressed the Newcastle faithful, as well as Steve Bruce, since his arrival at the club in August 2018, with the former Argentina international already closing in on his 50th appearance for the club. Following the latest news, it would appear that the 31-year-old will be sticking around St. James’ Park for at least another season.
