In a recent Q&A on the Chronicle Live, Andrew Musgrove has provided an update on Newcastle United’s potential takeover bid.

Back in January, it was reported that a Saudi Arabian shell company had been registered with the aim of completing a £340m takeover of Newcastle United, claiming that they were “90% certain” it will succeed.

However, there have been no significant steps forward since that time, leaving Newcastle United fans confused as to whether the takeover deal would ever materialise.

What date do the Premier League intend to start matches again?

A fan posed the question as to whether Chronicle reporter Andrew Musgrove believed that the takeover deal was dead, to which Musgrove replied:

“I said on deadline night that there was no concrete offer on the table and critics stated that can’t be right. But here we are in mid-March and Ashley is still at the helm.

“What was on the table was the prospect of serious commitment from the Middle East and Amanda Staveley putting a package together that would take it off Ashley’s hands. Once again, we’re still waiting for them to complete the transaction that would do that it.”

He continued: “It starts with a bid and we haven’t had one. Ashley will want a serious offer that compensates him for losing a profit-making machine in the Premier League and allows him to use the club as a platform for his business interests.”

As such, it would appear that there has indeed been no progression in any takeover deal for Newcastle United, news that is likely to leave Newcastle fans extremely frustrated if their opposition to their current owner is anything to go by.
