A lot of Newcastle United fans are fuming at the news from the Evening Chronicle about what their club have done.
Lee Ryder has claimed that Newcastle have put most of their staff on furlough while this viral outbreak continues.
The Toon were the first club in the Premier League to do so, and this news has not gone down well with these Newcastle fans.
Big story from @lee_ryder here.#nufc have placed staff on furlough leave this morning – including Academy & scouting staff.https://t.co/keQzmVWuJP

The club is in a relatively comfortable financial position, This is no more than penny pinching.

Pathetic. Aren’t Crystal Palace paying all their staff during the pandemic? If they can do it, Newcastle certainly can.

Clubs a disgrace all that money made through selling players and keeping hold of it and they won’t pay these guys the money they deserve

Other Toon supporters think that the players should help pay the wages of the staff members who have been put on furlough.
Why don’t the players take a wage cut like some of the other clubs and look after the staff.

Wonder if the players would be willing to step in to help these staff during this difficult time. The owner is a disgrace.

Captain @Lascelles16 are the players aware the staff have been put on Furlough? Any chance of help for those struggling with mortgages rent etc
— Paul Daglish (@daglish_paul) March 30, 2020
Surely reduce the playing staff’s salary by 10% each and that will cover the lot. @asaintmaximin you like the club, love the fans etc surely you’d be up for losing 10% to allow the normal employees to keep their job? @Lascelles16 any thoughts club captain???

What do we think?
Newcastle were the first Premier League club to do this though Tottenham Hotspur have followed and also done the same.
Have the club made the wrong choice here?
Yes
No
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have announced that their staff will be paid in full until everything returns to normal.
Judging by the responses, these Toon fans are not happy with their club for doing this to their staff.
The staff of Newcastle will just have to hope this situation is over quickly – so they can get back to work, but we feel that this was a harsh move by the Toon.
