Fans of Newcastle United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which suggests that an injury sustained by Newcastle first-choice goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is an opportunity for Karl Darlow to impress.
Dubravka, who arrived at Newcastle from AC Sparta Praha in 2018, has made 29 Premier League appearances for the Magpies so far this season, conceding 41 goals and keeping nine clean sheets, while averaging a WhoScored rating of 6.84.
However, the Slovakian international picked up an injury in Newcastle’s recent 1-0 victory over Southampton, with Martin Hardy of the Times reporting that the 31-year-old will now “miss at least the next six games of Newcastle’s season.”
As such, Steve Bruce will likely install the £2.7million-rated Karl Darlow as first-choice goalkeeper for Newcastle’s upcoming fixtures against Sheffield United, Bournemouth, West Ham, Watford and Tottenham, as well as Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
In reaction to the news, Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter, with many stating that Dubravka’s absence is a massive blow to their survival hopes, while others have claimed that Karl Darlow is simply not good enough to be first-choice ‘keeper.
Big chance for Karl Darlow.. https://t.co/56pugDBmAd

One fan even stated that he makes Liverpool’s Adrian look good, in response to Mark Douglas’ tweet. Of course, Adrian’s recent howler against Chelsea perhaps lured the Newcastle supporter into making the comparison to the Liverpool man.
A good keeper??? He is shocking he makes Adrian look good #nufc

Can we not recall Woodman?

Please no.
— TeslaFC (@TeslaFC_) March 10, 2020
Nope I’d rather recall Freddie Woodman than have Darlow as he is error prone

For real. Darlow needs to step up. This is a ginormous blow for survival.

He’s awful

What do we think?
Darlow has only made five appearances so far this season for Newcastle, four in the FA Cup, in which he has conceded five goals against Rochdale, Oxford United and West Brom, and one in the League Cup, in the Magpies’ loss to Leicester on penalties.
