A lot of Newcastle United fans have responded to a tweet from NUFC 360 discussing the importance of Federico Fernandez – after the Toon confirmed that they had triggered a one-year extension in the Argentine’s contract.
This news certainly excited NUFC 360 as they described Fernandez as ‘one of the best pieces of business we have done in the last decade’ and hailed the 31-year-old as a ‘brute of a defender.’
Certainly, judging by the reactions of these Toon fans, they are happy to see Fernandez’s contract extended.
£4m for Federico Fernandez remains one the best pieces of business we have done in the last decade.
A brute of a defender with experience in abundance. Aerially good, puts his body on the line m constantly. A real asset to the squad.
Delighted he has signed on for next year.

I think only Dubravka tops that with 3.6m within the past 5 years.

Aye Rafa did okay with that one ?

Brilliant signing. He needs to be signed up for even longer.

Who signed him?

That’s what was reported but it was later confirmed by Rafa that it was significantly less. Either way, 4m or 6m, still an absolute steal for him. Was a big fan of his before joining the toon.

What do we think?
The former Swansea City man only featured for 23 minutes in Newcastle’s first nine league games.
Are you happy with this update?
Yes, great player to have in the squad
No, we could do better
However, since he came in for the Toon’s 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, he has not missed a league game.
The Argentine has scored two goals and provided one assist in 23 league appearances and has earned an average rating of 6.84.
The tweet from NUFC 360 claims that the Toon paid £4m for Fernandez but the BBC report that Newcastle paid £6m for him.
Either way, we think that Fernandez has been a bargain for the Toon, and we think it is good to see his contract extended.
