Fans of Manchester City have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Zack Steffen will be given the chance to join their first-team squad in the summer.
Steffen, who arrived at Man City from Columbus Crew in July, has spent the season on loan at Bundesliga side Fortuna Düsseldorf.
The 24-year-old has played 17 matches for Düsseldorf in the league so far this season, conceding 36 goals and keeping two clean sheets, with the American international averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.58.
With the £9m-rated Steffen impressing at Fortuna, their director of football, Lutz Pfannenstiel, stated (via Manchester Evening News): “Zack had a brilliant start into the season and showed that he has the potential to become a top keeper at European level.”
However, while Fortuna are reportedly keen for the goalkeeper to stay for a further season, City are reported to want to involve the player in summer training before making a final decision on Steffen’s immediate future.
In reaction to the news, Man City fans have taken to Twitter, with many claiming that Steffen would provide first-choice Ederson with the competition he requires.

Steffen is the perfect keeper to give Ederson some competition and he really needs it, plus City already own him so it’s not gonna cost any money!

As an American City fan (yes, we exist), I’d rather have him playing 90 minutes for a weaker side than just playing Cup matches and when ever Ederson gets a Red.

Very talented and, could possibly give Ederson stiff competition for his place.

What do we think?
Following Ederson’s costly mistakes against Manchester United last weekend, it could be time for Pep Guardiola to bring in stronger competition for a first-team goalkeeping place, rather than the current options of Claudio Bravo or Scott Carson.
