Fans of Manchester City have been reacting to a post by Man City Xtra on Twitter, which relays news that Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois and Marcelo have been ruled out of the upcoming Champions League round-of-16 second-leg tie against City.

Courtois, who moved to Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2018, has made 24 La Liga appearances for Madrid so far this season, conceding 16 goals and keeping 12 clean sheets.

The Belgian international has averaged a WhoScored match rating of 6.81 in the league, as well as a 6.78 rating over his six Champions League appearances.

Meanwhile, Marcelo has made 18 appearances for Madrid so far this season, scoring one goal and providing five assists, while averaging a WhoScored rating of 7.06 in his 11 La Liga matches.

However, after both players picked up injuries in their recent fixture with Real Betis, the pair are set to miss next week’s tie against Manchester City.

After the news was relayed on Twitter, Man City fans flocked to the replies, with many stating their delight at the information, while others hoped that Pep Guardiola would not use the news as a reason to experiment with his squad.

City broke the all-time points record in the 17/18 Premier League season, but how many points did the champions finish that season on?

What do we think?

With Manchester City currently 25 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table and City having just 10 games left to play in the league, it is likely that Pep Guardiola will be even more motivated to go deep into the Champions League this season.

Following their first-leg victory, City are in a fantastic position to do exactly that, and with Madrid missing both Thibaut Courtois and Marcelo, fans have reason to be confident of another victory for City next week.
