Fans of Manchester City have been reacting to Nicolas Otamendi’s post on Twitter, in which the 32-year-old reflects on City’s FA Cup fifth-round victory over Sheffield Wednesday earlier this week.

Otamendi, who signed for Manchester City from Valencia in 2015, has made 31 appearances for City in all competitions this season, scoring three goals, with the centre-back averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.78 over his 18 Premier League matches.

The £16.2 million-rated defender’s latest appearance came in City’s FA Cup victory, which saw the holders progress to the quarter-finals, and remain on course to complete a domestic and European cup treble.

Following the match, Otamendi took to Twitter, with the Argentinian international posting images from City’s win, alongside the caption: “Step by step! Let’s go, guys!

In reaction to the post, City fans flocked to the replies, with many congratulating the 32-year-old on his display, while others claimed that Otamendi’s recent form reminds them of his best performances for the club.

Who holds the record of having scored the quickest goal in Premier League history?

What do we think?

With both Aymeric Laporte and John Stones enduring spells on the sidelines this season, Otamendi has had to play an important role in City’s defence.

Often operating alongside Fernandinho at centre-back, the onus has fallen on Otamendi to lead City defensively, and although the club trail Liverpool in the league, the fact that Pep Guardiola’s side are on course to complete a domestic and European cup treble would suggest that the Argentian is doing a decent job.
