Fans of Manchester City have been reacting to Ilkay Gündogan’s comments on Twitter, in which the 29-year-old discusses the future of his City teammate Leroy Sane.

Sane, who arrived at Manchester City from FC Schalke 04 in 2016, is yet to feature for City in the Premier League this season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the club’s victory over Liverpool in the Community Shield back in August.

However, last season, the £90 million-rated left-winger highly impressed for City, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists in 31 Premier League appearances, in addition to a further four goals and four assists in his eight Champions League fixtures.

The German international’s performances caught the attention of Bayern Munich, who had reportedly offered City £70.7 million for Sane, which Pep Guardiola’s side turned down.

Despite Sane’s lengthy spell on the sidelines this season, the forward’s future still appears uncertain, as the Guardian reported in January that the 24-year-old is yet to sign a longstanding contract offer from City.

However, recent comments made by Gündogan have shed some light on the Sane transfer saga, with many City fans flocking to Twitter to have their say on the matter.

What do we think?

While Gündogan’s comments appear to have pleased City fans, questions remain as to whether Sane will indeed stay at City beyond this season.

With City facing a two-year ban from European competition, Sane has to make a decision as to whether he is willing to miss out on two years of Champions League football to stay at City, or move elsewhere, thus being able to play in Europe’s elite competition.
