Signing the Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele is one of Liverpool’s ‘objectives’ this summer, that’s according to SPORT via Sport Witness. In Friday’s edition of AS (as per Sport Witness), it was claimed that a deal could be done and the Reds were in with a chance of securing the Frenchman’s services if their interest was genuine.

The article goes on to claim that Barcelona’s financial situation could force them into selling the winger after it was recently announced the playing staff would take a 70% pay-cut as well as making additional contributions in order to ensure the non-sporting staff can continue to receive their full wages.

How many goals has Mohamed Salah scored in all competitions this season?

Dembele is currently sidelined and isn’t expected to return until August (via Transfermarkt.co.uk). He’s been limited to just five La Liga appearances this term and has appeared on four occasions in this seasons UEFA Champions League.

The Catalan giants signed him from Borussia Dortmund in August 2017 and the transfer was worth a staggering £112.5m. Less than three years on, his market value has dropped significantly from the £108m that was quoted in February 2019 to a current figure of £63m.

TIF Tactics – Is there a place for Dembele in this current Liverpool side?

Interestingly, the attacker appears to be a long-term target for the Reds as they were linked with moving for him again back in 2018, though a move this time very much depends on Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp currently boasts one of the most effective forward lines in world football. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino between them have scored 38 of Liverpool’s 66 Premier League goals so far this season.

However, beyond those three, in our opinion, the league leaders could do with adding some extra depth, as the likes of Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri have just six between them. The reports in Spain claim Klopp is keen on bringing the former Borussia Dortmund star to Merseyside but whether or not he will feel he is worth the kind of money Barcelona are asking remains to be seen.
