Liverpool crashed out of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, therefore, ending their hopes of retaining the famous trophy. Jurgen Klopp’s side trailed from the first-leg but after Georginio Wijnaldum levelled the tie just before half-time and Roberto Firmino’s goal in extra-time the Reds looked as though they were destined for the quarter-finals.

However, it wasn’t to be as Atletico Madrid stunned the hosts with three extra-time goals, two of which were scored by second-half substitute Marcos Llorente. Following the defeat, football correspondent Sam Cunningham tweeted regarding the Liverpool fans and it’s safe to say it’s not gone down well.

In our view, the Liverpool fans have every right to feel disappointed by Sam Cunningham’s tweet. Although it may have been meant in a light-hearted way, this is purely an assumption and one that shows the club’s supporters in a bad light. One of those who responded claims he made it up in an attempt to gain traction on the social media platform and in our view, that might not be far off of the truth.
