Liverpool are reportedly eyeing up a summer transfer move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

According to Sky Germany (14:24) via the Mirror, the Merseyside club are one of a number of clubs supposedly interested in the defensive-midfielder.

These clubs include Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and fellow Premier League side Manchester United.

The 23-year-old is currently valued at £40.5 million according to Transfermarkt.

Having made 31 appearances for the Bundesliga side so far this season in all competitions, Zakaria has only managed to score two goals and provide two assists (per Transfermarkt).

However, the Switzerland international’s performances in the Bundesliga so far this season has earned the Swiss international an impressive season rating of 7.15/10 according to WhoScored.

Despite this overall season rating, Zakaria’s last appearance for Monchengladbach in their 2-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund saw the midfielder pick up a measly match rating of 5.86, the lowest match rating he has been given so far this season according to WhoScored.

This current season rating means Zakaria stands as Monchengladbach’s fourth-highest rated player in their squad (per WhoScored).

Zakaria’s player attributes include dribbling, taking long shots, his concentration, his tackling and his ability to block the ball (per WhoScored). These attributes suggest Zakaria is a defensive but technically gifted player.

Liverpool’s current main defensive midfielder Fabinho returned from a serious ankle injury back in January after two months out of action. Should the club decided to make a move for Zakaria in the upcoming summer transfer window, his season rating suggests he could provide a suitable back up for Fabinho should the Brazilian get injured again. Or failing that, Zakaria could provide a decent option should Jurgen Klopp decide to rotate his team.
