Liverpool are set to pay Southampton an additional £4m for the transfer of Virgil van Dijk – that’s according to the Express. It’s understood that the payment will be due when the Dutch defender has played 150 games for the reigning European Champions who has now appeared for the Reds 113 times (via Transfermarkt.co.uk).
However, the original source which is Football Insider suggests that the money is to be paid to the player himself upon reaching that milestone therefore the two reports are contradictory. Some of the fans have responded to the Express’ piece and here’s what they have had to say.
Is Van Dijk Liverpool's most important player?

What do we think?
Whilst it’s unclear whether the bonus is to be paid to Virgil van Dijk or Southampton, what is abundantly evident is that these fans believe it would be money well spent. The 28-year-old’s average performance rating in the Premier League this season currently stands at 7.4/10 according to WhoScored.com, highlighting the consistency he has shown since arriving at Anfield in January 2018.
