This week Crystal Palace fans reacted to a highlight of their ex-player, Matt Jansen. The highlight shows Jansen scoring a goal against Aston Villa back in 1998.
When fans of the Eagles saw the post they admitted that they had higher hopes for the player. They reckon he was brilliant during his time at Palace, with the player being sold much too soon.
For the most part, fans had nothing but positive things to say about Jansen. The player himself even jumped on Twitter to thank them for their praise.
Here are a few examples of what fans had to say about Jansen.
He had the potential to be a true great for this club, absolutely gutted when we sold him, more than any other player.

Sad we lost him relatively soon after buying him due to financial incompetence. Even sadder what happened to him in Rome. The kid had the world at his feet.

Just read his book , great read. Goldberg offered him all sorts apparently #supermattyjansen

Great player, great talent and great hair.

Agreed. Such a massive shame Matt never got to reach his true potential. One of our most exciting signings ever imo, but sadly never we never got to see the star mature

Quality player. Gutted when he left Palace.

Would Jansen have been a Palace legend if he stayed?
Yes

No

What do we think?
Jansen retired back in 2014, with his last club being Chorley FC. The player made a majority of his appearances for Blackburn Rovers, joining the side after leaving Palace for £5.4 million back in 1999.
Back in 1999, that amount of money was a significant fee for any player. We’re not surprised that these Palace fans have fond memories of the Englishman, despite only being on the team’s books for one year.
