Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to discuss a potential transfer move for Crystal Palace defender Gary Cahill.
This comes after Villa fan Twitter account @AVFC_Religion shared a post on their page claiming that the club “missed a trick” in not signing Cahill before adding that the Englishman would have been “superb” playing alongside Tyrone Mings.
Should Villa have signed Gary Cahill in the summer?
Yes
No
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Villa fans who shared the same sentiments on Cahill.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans responding to the post:

Agree. Lack of Prem Experience has certainly taken its toll.

Cahill and Mings would have been brilliant. Could of used Engels/Kosna money on buying someone better than Trezeguet.

Absolutely agree, Konsa and Hause nowhere near good enough

The former Chelsea man joined Roy Hodgson’s side in the previous summer transfer window where he has since made 22 appearances for the London club in all competitions so far this season (per Transfermarkt). Cahill left Villa in 2008 for a move to Bolton Wanderers after making just 31 appearances for the club (per Transfermarkt). Now that it has been suggested that the club should have made a move for Cahill last summer, this has paved the way for lots of Villa fans to share their thoughts on the matter.
Wages was very high!! But experience in the premier league would have be valuable

Agreed the Premier League experience in the dressing room a real leader and has great organisation which is what we need at the back.

100% correct the lack of premiership experience particularly in defence has been a huge error.

What do we think?
With Villa currently being the team that has conceded the most goals in the Premier League so far this season, alongside Southampton and Norwich City, it comes as no surprise that these Villa fans have been thinking of what could have happened if the club did bring Cahill, who is valued at £4.5 million (Transfermarkt), in at the start of the season.
