Phil Hay has been discussing the lack of Ian Poveda in any of Leeds’ recent squads.

It looks like he will be missing this Saturday, as Marcelo Bielsa (via Phil Hay) confirmed that the 18 would be the exact same as last week.

This would mean that the likes of Jordan Stevens and Jamie Shackleton will be on the bench, but Poveda will not be.

Bielsa, however, gave no reasons as to why the former City man would not be included, and Hay was asked by a fan why he thinks that Poveda is not making the squad.

The Athletic reporter said that Bielsa has never suggested that his absence was to do with fitness, but for one reason or another, Poveda is not making the cut.

Indeed, a fan asked Hay:

“What do you mean when you say ‘On Poveda’? He’s just not there because his fitness levels aren’t there yet, right?”

He replied:

“Bielsa has never said it’s specifically about fitness issues (he made a couple of squads if you remember) but suffice to say, he’s not making the cut for the 18.”

20-year-old winger Poveda, who arrived from Manchester City in January was on the bench for the Whites’ games with Millwall and Wigan Athletic, but since then, he has missed out on every matchday squad.

Do you think Poveda has been a flop?

Yes, not getting into the squad

What do we think?

Poveda, who is valued at £675k by Transfermarkt, reportedly chose to sign for the Whites over Torino, but we doubt that he is happy with his lack of game time.

The 20-year-old has been with Leeds for eight matches now, and he has still not had a taste of first-team action.

After Leeds play Huddersfield Town on Saturday, there will be nine matches left in the league for Poveda to make his mark, and maybe if he works hard in training and impresses Bielsa, then he could be given his chance.
