West Bromwich Albion defender Nathan Ferguson almost joined Crystal Palace last month, but the deal fell through at the last minute – and it’s understood that was due to a disagreement between the two clubs regarding the severity of his knee problem, according to The Athletic.
The move was reportedly worth a total of £11m including add-ons, and with the player’s contract at the Hawthorns due to expire at the end of this season, the Baggies were forced to negotiate with the Premier League club.
Should Nathan Ferguson still be considered for selection?
Yes
No
Crystal Palace are thought to have believed that Ferguson’s knee requires immediate surgery, therefore ruling him out for the rest of the season – whereas West Brom’s medical staff felt no surgery was required.
Despite the move collapsing, Slaven Bilic has been quoted as saying he admires his quality and that he will be considered for selection if fit. However, the Croatian’s comments have caused a divide in opinion amongst these fans.
Fair enough to slav?hes still gonna use the quality in our team to help us and thats respect but hes only using us tbf aint he?( nathan )

He should only play if we are desperate….he shouldn’t be picked ahead of players who want to play for the club…..

IF it’s true that he turned down a 6 month return loan option then he shouldn’t be near the team. If he commits then fair enough, but right now we need fully focused players who want to be at the club.

What do we think?
Nathan Ferguson has played 21 times in the Championship this season, starting in 70% of West Brom’s league fixtures so far. Although his future may be uncertain, the Baggies are desperate to secure promotion and it appears that in Slaven Bilic’s view, he must continue to select the best players at his disposal even if they won’t be at the club beyond the summer to achieve that – so contrary to the views of some fans, it makes perfect sense.
