Some West Brom fans have been reacting positively to footage of a classic goal scored by Thomas Gaardsoe that has recently been shared by the club’s official Twitter account.

The Baggies’ official Twitter account has shared the footage of Gaardsøe’s goal from West Brom’s 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic from their successful promotion-winning campaign of the 2003/04 English First Division season.

The Baggies will be hoping for similar success in this weekend’s Championship game versus Wigan as the current league leaders hope to continue their march towards promotion to the Premier League once again.

Some West Brom fans have been sharing positive memories of Gaardsøe’s time at The Hawthorns in response to this classic goal being posted by the Baggies’ official Twitter account. The Danish centre-back helped West Brom to secure promotion in his first season at the club, joining for a fee of £720,000 in the summer prior to the 2003/04 season and going on to feature in 45 of the Baggies’ 46 games during their that year. Read the positive reactions to this footage from some West Brom fans in the tweets below.

What do we think?

Gaardsøe would ultimately go on to feature in 29 games for the Baggies in their 2004/05 Premier League campaign, helping them to avoid relegation by a single point. The Danish centre-back’s time at West Brom ultimately ended prematurely as he was forced into early retirement in December 2006, at just 27 years old, as a result of a chronic groin injury.

The Danish centre-back remained absent from the game until the 2009/10 season when he came out of retirement to join Aalborg BK, however, he ended up making just 45 more professional appearances before ending his career in 2012.
