West Brom’s official club Twitter account earned praise from some of the club’s supporters after posting a tweet which pokes fun at the Twitter activity of rival club, Nottingham Forest.
The tweet from the Baggies’ official account, reads “rent free” and includes screenshots of some displeased tweets that had been sent out by Forest’s official account, during and after the two teams’ 2-2 draw this past weekend.
Forest’s Twitter account displayed clear displeasure on social media during Saturday’s fixture. Forest appeared to take issue with the lack of protection being afforded to left-back Yuri Ribeiro. In one tweet, the official account stated that referee Keith Stroud was “furious as he’s forced to give a yellow card to Matt Phillips for a late challenge on Yuri Ribeiro”.
The following day, Forest produced a follow-up tweet to the previous one, hailing Ribeiro for his performance against West Brom, while taking another jibe at the rough treatment he had received from West Brom’s players in Saturday’s contest. The second tweet claimed that the left-back had been “kicked all over the park” in Saturday’s game.
The Baggies’ official account appeared to draw the line at that point, which is when they sent out their “rent free” post. Read the positive reactions of some West Brom fans to their club’s response in the tweets below.

What do we think?
Nottingham Forest’s fans and their official account are within their rights to air their grievances with Saturday’s fixture. However, the stats from Saturday’s game don’t completely back up their claims of West Brom engaging in unfair play, in comparison to themselves.
According to Whoscored.com, West Brom had a tackle success rate of 63% in Saturday’s game, while Forest’s tackle success rate stood at just 52%. Furthermore, Whoscored.com also had West Brom’s foul count from Saturday’s game at eight, while Forest made 11 fouls.
