Some West Brom fans have been praising club captain Jake Livermore on social media after the 30-year-old midfielder scored in the Baggies’ 2-0 Championship win over Preston North End this past Tuesday evening.

Livermore’s goal ended a run of 17 straight Championship games without a goal. The 30-year-old club captain primarily plays as a defensive midfielder for the Baggies, rarely venturing forward into goalscoring territory as a result. However, Tuesday’s goal took Livermore’s goal tally up to three for the 2019/20 Championship season.

Livermore has been consistently delivering positive performances in recent weeks. The West Brom captain has earned an overall rating of over 7.0 in each of his last six Championship appearances, according to WhoScored.com.

His recent performances have earned plenty of recognition from some West Brom fans on social media of late. Some West Brom fans used the club captain’s rare goal as an opportunity to share more recognition for his recent performances, with some fans dubbing the 30-year-old midfielder “captain magnifico” in their tweets. Read the positive posts about Livermore following Tuesday’s goal from some West Brom fans in the tweets below.

What do we think?

Livermore has started 34 of the current league leaders’ 35 Championship games this season, accumulating a total of 3,003 minutes of Championship game time this season, according to WhoScored.com.

Only Baggies goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has been more of an ever-present figure than captain Livermore has for West Brom this season, making one more appearance and playing 147 more minutes than the 30-year-old midfielder in the Championship this season.

His large amount of game time shows how much of an important role Livermore has played in the league leaders’ successful Championship campaign so far this season. It may be fair to say that Livermore’s reliability and impressive performances of late warrant some goals for the midfielder.
