Some West Brom fans showed their appreciation towards Matheus Pereira’s equalising goal from their midweek game versus Reading.

West Brom extended their lead at the top of the Championship table to six points following their midweek win away to Reading. Despite going behind early on, the league leaders managed to complete their comeback to come away with a 2-1 win. Slaven Bilic’s side played some impressive football in the build-up to their equalising goal, which is drawing the praise of some of the club’s fans on Twitter.

The Baggies’ first goal of the game, which can be viewed via the club’s Twitter account, saw the Championship title contenders utilise a quick and effective short-passing sequence to progress the ball from their penalty area all the way to Reading’s to create their goal, cutting through Reading’s midfield and defence masterfully in the process.

West Brom’s impressive build-up play allowed their Brazilian attacker Pereira to pounce on the ball and tuck it away at the second time of asking, scoring his sixth goal of the Championship season in doing so.

What do we think?

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United side receive praise for their attractive and attacking style of play. However, as the quality of this goal reminds us, Slaven Bilic’s West Brom are also playing in an attractive and attacking manner. Furthermore, the Baggies are utilising their methods more successfully than Bielsa’s Leeds at present, as they currently sit six points clear of the Peacocks in the Championship table.

West Brom have attempted a total of 54 shots over the past two Championship games. Bilic has praised his side’s high number of shot attempts in recent games, stating that he is “pleased in that part of our game”.

It is evident that West Brom have effectively employed some impressive, attacking tactics this season. Should they continue to impress on the pitch as they have in recent games and score more goals like the one being discussed here, they could achieve promotion to the Premier League in style.
