Some West Brom fans have been commending Ahmed Hegazi’s ‘brilliant’ defensive performance in West Brom’s recent 2-0 win over Preston North End on social media.

The Egyptian international posted a tweet following the Baggies’ midweek win celebrating his team’s victory, as well as the achievement accomplished by him and his teammates on the defensive side of things, in keeping a second straight Championship clean sheet.

The 29-year-old centre-back played an important role in West Brom’s solid defensive performance this past Tuesday. According to WhoScored.com, Hegazi completed a total of five successful tackles. That is a higher number of tackles than any other player completed in this game from either side. The defender’s impressive tackling helped him to earn an overall rating of 7.51 on WhoScored.com for Tuesday’s fixture. Only two Baggies players earned a higher WhoScored rating than Hegazi.

Some Baggies supporters replied to Hegazi’s celebratory tweet with praise for the Egyptian international’s impressive performance in Tuesday’s game. Read the positive posts from some West Brom fans regarding Hegazi’s display on Tuesday evening in the tweets below.

What do we think?

Hegazi has featured in just nine of West Brom’s 35 Championship fixtures this season. According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the 29-year-old had picked up an ankle injury this past summer, undergoing surgery prior to the beginning of the 2019/20 season. This injury may have played a significant role in the Egyptian not starting a Championship game for the Baggies this season until the 23rd of November.

The 29-year-old still isn’t featuring consistently for the Baggies. He has started four of their last eight games in all competitions, however, he has been performing well in the games that he has featured in recently.

West Brom have kept a clean sheet in three of the last four competitive games in which Hegazi has started. Furthermore, the Egyptian has earned a rating of over 7.0 in both of his last two starts. If the 29-year-old can lock down some regular game time pushing into the final stages of the season, he may play an important part in helping the current league leaders’ clinch the Championship title.
