It was an interesting transfer window for Sunderland fans. During the window, the club brought in five new players and welcomed back Ethan Robson from his loan at Grimsby Town. They brought in three players on loan as well as striker Kyle Lafferty on a free transfer, while Josh Scowen was purchased from QPR for an undisclosed fee (Transfermarkt).

In response to this, Roker Report asked fans to rate their January transfer window. Many supporters are underwhelmed by the signings, admitting that they wished Stewart Donald and Phil Parkinson had made more investment. They pointed out that the team is still in need of another striker and creative midfielder. One fan even suggests the team is weaker than this time last season, with Aiden McGeady, Dylan McGeouch, Marc McNulty and Laurens De Bock all leaving the club during January.

Others are withholding judgement until they see the players get a good run of games. If they work out, they won’t be complaining about the window, as it’s more about results, not big names.

What do we think?

We agree with the last few fans on this one. While some might consider this window a bit of a letdown, it will all be worth it if the club can make it out of League One. Assuming Parkinson can get the players to commit to his brand of football, there is every chance he can lead them back to the Championship. Only time will tell.
