Yesterday Alan Hutton announced that he was retiring from competitive football via talkSPORT. The 35-year-old began his career for Rangers after progressing through the club’s youth ranks.
Hutton left Rangers for Tottenham Hotspur back in 2008 for £11.7 million, which remains the second-highest fee the Gers have ever received for a player. The most expensive player they ever sold was Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who left Rangers for Arsenal in 2001 for £12.15 million.
When Rangers’ official Twitter account congratulated Hutton, fans of the club shared their warm wishes. They admit that he was a brilliant right-back for the side, with one fan claiming that he still hasn’t truly been replaced.

Phenomenal rampaging down that right flank for us for those years we had him. Wee McGeady was terrified of him. All the best

This makes me feel old. I’m 23. Feels like a lifetime ago I watched him flying up and down that right wing. What a player

Cant be many players who comeback from a leg break as a better player

Would you like to have seen Alan Hutton return to Rangers?
Yes
No
A couple of supporters say that they would have liked to have seen Hutton return to Ibrox one last time before he ended his career.
Great stuff Alan Hutton had a great run of football career done well with the famous I thought we would’ve seen you back in the blue again but not to be I suppose all the best for whatever your future holds for you

What do we think?
Hutton made a total of 91 appearances for Rangers and 50 appearances for Scotland. He could go down as a cult hero to the Gers faithful, even if he never returned to the side after his departure.
