Some Brentford fans on social media have been quick to show support for Ethan Pinnock’s contributions over the course of the 2019/20 season, as the 26-year-old centre-back claimed he was at fault for one of the goals that Brentford conceded in their 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers this Saturday.

Pinnock made a Twitter post in the aftermath of Saturday’s Championship fixture to claim responsibility for one of the two goals Blackburn scored. Pinnock’s began his post by stating “My fault for the goal”, before going on to claim the Bees could have earned all three points in Saturday’s fixture. He finished his post by commending the support given to his team by the Bees faithful.

Pinnock was likely referring to Blackburn’s first goal of the game in his post. The 26-year-old “misjudged the flight of a long ball”, as stated by BBC Sport, in the build-up to Blackburn’s first goal. Pinnock’s misjudgement subsequently allowed Adam Armstrong to put Blackburn in the lead.

In owning up to his mistake, Pinnock received the sympathy of some of the Bees faithful on Twitter. Many of the Brentford fans who responded to Pinnock’s tweet were in agreement that the 26-year-old has been one of the Bees’ better players this season, despite his recent mistake. What do we think?

Pinnock has earned an average overall rating of 7.07 for the 2019/20 Championship season on WhoScored.com. Only two Brentford players have earned an average overall rating higher than Pinnock for the current Championship season.

The 26-year-old has started at centre-back in 22 of Brentford’s 34 Championship games this season, featuring in another two as a substitute. Pinnock’s performances at the heart of Brentford’s defence have helped them to concede just 29 goals so far this season, giving them the Championship’s best defensive record at present.

It may be fair to say that Pinnock has been having an impressive season, given the relatively high overall average rating that he has managed to earn playing at the heart of the team with the best defensive record in the Championship this season.
