Brentford fans have flocked to social media to show their support for Ethan Pinnock as the centre-back scored his first club goal for the Bees this past weekend versus Birmingham City.

Pinnock picked a good time to score his first for the club as he headed home the Bees’ only goal in their 1-1 draw with Birmingham this weekend. Pinnock scored the equaliser in the 17th minute of Saturday’s game, ensuring that Birmingham’s lead, earned in the 13th minute of the game, was a short-lived one.

One fan notably referred to the 26-year-old defender as the Brentford’s ‘player of the season’. While prolific attackers such as Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins have received notable media coverage due to their performances recently, Pinnock has had an impressive season playing at the heart of the defence for the team who have conceded the fewest amount of goals in the Championship this season.

What do we think?

Pinnock has accumulated an average rating of 7.15 from his 23 Championship appearances for Brentford this season, according to Whoscored.com. Only Benrahma and Watkins have earned a better rating on the website than Pinnock this year.

Pinnock joined Brentford in last summer’s transfer window. Last season, Brentford had conceded a total of 59 goals by the end of the campaign. Conceding just 27 goals in their 33 games so far this season, Brentford are well on course to better that record by a significant amount.

Appearing in 23 of Brentford’s 33 Championship games, and being recognised as one of Brentford’s best performing players, it may be fair to say that the 26-year-old centre-back has played a significant role in Brentford’s improved defensive record this season.
