Some Birmingham City fans have taken to social media to share their view that goalkeeper Lee Camp should have been named the Man of the Match in their recent midweek clash with Millwall.

Camp’s goalkeeping performance helped the Blues to keep a clean sheet as they played out a 0-0 draw away to Millwall on Wednesday evening. Millwall may have produced some more effective attacking moves than their opponents in their recent fixture, managing to create a total of 12 shooting opportunities to Birmingham’s eight.

Furthermore, Millwall managed to get three of their 12 shots on target, while the Blues failed to hit the target with any of their eight shots, not including Kristian Pedersen’s “controversially disallowed” second-half goal.

However, the Blues were ultimately not punished for their failure to hit the target, as their 35-year-old goalkeeper made three important saves to prevent Millwall from scoring. Camp earned him an overall rating of 7.75 on WhoScored.com.

Birmingham City centre-back Harlee Dean was named as the Man of the Match. However, some Blues supporters took to Twitter to claim that Camp’s goalkeeping display warranted the award instead. Read the posts from some Birmingham City fans in favour of Camp in the tweets below.

What do we think?

Camp’s three saves ultimately played an important role in helping the Blues secure a point from their midweek game versus a side currently sitting four places above them in the Championship table. His goalkeeping display helped Birmingham to extend their current unbeaten run to 12 straight games in all competitions.

Camp, who is valued at £315k (as per Transfermarkt), had been dropped from the Blues’ squad for nearly two months earlier this season, following a disappointing performance in Birmingham’s 1-0 loss to Fulham in November, in which an error made by the goalkeeper led to Fulham’s goal.

Following that game, Camp didn’t make a single appearance for the Blues until their 2-1 FA Cup win over Blackburn Rovers in January. Camp has featured in all 12 of Birmingham’s games in all competitions since then, during which time they have been undefeated

The 35-year-old has been enjoying a particularly impressive run of form over the past few games. Camp has earned an overall rating of over 7.0 in three of his last four games, according to WhoScored.com. Furthermore, his overall rating of 7.75 in Birmingham’s 0-0 draw with Millwall is the goalkeeper’s highest overall rating of the 2019/20 season so far. It may be fair to suggest that Camp’s performance this past Wednesday warranted more recognition.
