Scottish giants Celtic are desperate to add another goalkeeper to their ranks and strengthen in that position of the pitch.

Football Insider claims that the Hoops have no plans to hand a new contract to veteran goalkeeper Craig Gordon. The former Sunderland stopper was reportedly close to joining Hearts in the January transfer window, but the move did not materialise.

Should Celtic keep hold of Gordon?

The report goes onto state that Gordon had made it clear to Celtic that he wanted to leave to join Hearts, and that the club’s recruitment chief Nick Hammond, has been told to start looking for a goalkeeper in their bid to replace the departing Gordon.

With Fraser Forster also on loan from Southampton, meaning the Hoops are facing the prospect of signing another goalkeeper.

Isolated at Parkhead

Gordon’s current deal at Celtic runs out in the summer of 2020 and he is yet to make a single Premiership appearance for the Hoops this season. He has made six appearances in all competitions for the club though, with four coming in European competition and two coming in the League Cup.

He arrived at Parkhead in the summer of 2014 and joined the club on a free transfer two years after leaving Sunderland.

TIF Tactics

Gordon not playing enough isn’t the only problem for Celtic. He has constantly faced knee injuries over the last two seasons, having struggled with injury in the past. That isn’t a promising sign for a keeper who isn’t getting any younger.

The club should not think too much about letting him go for free and signing a younger goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
