Supporters of West Ham United have reacted to a transfer link between the club and Italian full-back Ignazio Abate.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, the Toffees are interested in signing the former AC Milan man, however, are facing competition from La Liga side Getafe (via West Ham News), which had some fans pleased.

Would signing Ignazio Abate be an improvement on Pablo Zabaleta?

The 33-year-old has been without a club since his release from the Rossoneri over the summer (as per Transfermarkt), leaving the right-back available on a free transfer.

Across his career, Abate has made 448 appearances, in which he has scored nine and assisted 28 (as per Transfermarkt), however, some fans did not want to see the Italian signed.

What do we think?

Having been without a club for over six months now and moving towards the twilight of his career (via Transfermarkt), a move for Abate could represent a little risk for the Hammers.

However, with the Italian available on a free transfer and the club needing any player who can help them out of their current predicament (per BBC), he could be worth a punt.
