A report from football.london has claimed that Jose Mourinho is keeping his eye on young Tottenham left-back Dennis Cirkin.

Cirkin’s name is mentioned in a piece about the Spurs youngsters that could get an opportunity in the first team in 2020.

The report claims that Mourinho is watching Cirkin closely and that his performances for the academy have impressed many people.

The 17-year-old was named on the bench for Spurs’ FA Cup replay with Middlesbrough in January.

This was because Cirkin caught the eye of the former Inter Milan boss in the first few weeks of training, and he has spent a lot of time with the first team.

Football.london reports that Cirkin has a great engine and excellent technical ability, and Mourinho decided to let him bypass the Under-23 squad after he saw a video of him during Tottenham’s Under-19s match with Olympiakos.

The section on Cirkin ends with a quote from Mourinho on the 17-year-old. He said: “He’s a kid with a lot of quality, and I look forward to bringing him training with us.”

Here’s what Alasdair Gold said in full:

“We’ve already mentioned Cirkin above but it’s worth mentioning him again because the 17-year-old left-back is already being watched closely by Mourinho.

“The teenager has been impressing plenty of people with his performances in the academy and the Portuguese has given him a spot on the bench for the FA Cup replay against Middlesbrough.”

What do we think?

At just 17, Cirkin has a lot of development to go through both physically and as a footballer, but for Mourinho to include him in first-team training and then put him on the bench for an FA Cup replay suggests that the Portuguese manager likes him a lot.

It remains to be seen if Cirkin makes his first-team debut this season, but either way, he is certainly one for Spurs fans to watch out for in the future.
