Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left angry by Mick McCarthy’s comments about Troy Parrott signing a new deal at the North London club.
Parrott recently signed a new contract at the club, which is set to keep the young striker at Spurs till the summer of 2023. However, his national team boss McCarthy doesn’t seem too pleased about the news.
Was Parrott right to stay at Spurs in January?
Yes, no question about it
Should've been loaned out
As quoted by the Irish Times, McCarthy revealed that he’d have been happier if Parrott had gone out on loan to a club like Charlton Athletic to get some first-team games for the London-based outfit. But McCarthy also admitted that the new deal will be good for the youngster ‘financially’.
When journalist Alasdair Gold relayed these comments, many Spurs fans were raging.
Nothing to do with him how our club do our business and who give contact too

McCarthy will be gone at the end of this year and Troy will be none of his concern. The Ireland u21 boss will take his place and he knows Troy very well. I can understand why Ireland want him playing but he’ll get his chance. Patience is key

I would rather trust José than Mick personally.

McCarthy needs to keep his beak out

Mick McCarthy is selfish

Mick McCarthy only has a contract until after the Euros so he shouldn’t voice his opinion. Its Stephen Kenny who should or shouldn’t be impressed #COYS

None of his business

The 18-year-old striker has already made his Premier League debut this season. He came on against Burnley in the Premier League to play the final five minutes. He also featured against Colchester United in the League Cup, playing 66 minutes of the game in his first senior appearance.
Parrott has been in impressive form in the UEFA Youth League for Spurs’ Under-19s side this season. He has played only four games, scoring six goals in the competition.
What do we think?
In this case, McCarthy’s comments don’t really matter. All that matters is Jose Mourinho’s judgment. Parrott could learn a lot from playing alongside the likes of Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Heung-Min Son, and that will help in his development.
