Spurs fans were delighted to hear that the club are preparing a big-money move for Benfica defender Ruben Dias in the summer.
According to Portuguese news outlet Noticias ao Minuto (via Ricky Sacks), Jose Mourinho will prioritise signing the centre-back in his quest to bring in several new faces ahead of next season. The Spurs boss could lose 32-year-old Jan Vertonghen with his contract expiring at the end of the season and the Benfica man could prove to be his replacement should Spurs make a move for the 22-year-old.
Dias has been in excellent form for the Liga NOS side so far this season, averaging an impressive 7.10 rating for his performances in Portugal’s top division, as per WhoScored. Mourinho’s side have struggled defensively so far this season, having kept just four clean sheets in the Premier League, but they will have to spend big if they want to bring the £34.2 million-rated man to North London this summer.

Awesome guy to add and would love him, but with Toby, Sanchez and Tanganga not sure we have enough space to get guys the time they need/deserve. I think Dias is an upgrade on all 3 but who sits?
Also don’t want it to take away from spending in other areas.

Mourinho can get it done due to his connections, he did not get Bruno Fernandes though, as he was “out of our league” or was he…………

Well he’s portuguese so it’s probably true

These Spurs fans are clearly keen on a move for Dias and will be hoping to see the club attempt to bring him to North London ahead of next season.
What do we think?
With the emergence of Japhet Tanganga in the Spurs first team, as well as Davinson Sanchez who is still only 23, Spurs are arguably not in need of another young centre-back, but with Dias’ strengths being passing and providing a threat from set-pieces (as per WhoScored), he could fit well into Mourinho’s defence.
