Spurs fans were full of praise for Steven Bergwijn after the Dutch winger made a goalscoring start to life at the North London club.
The 22-year-old netted the opening goal in Spurs’ 2-0 win over Manchester City with a brilliant volley and earned a 7.53 rating for his performance. It was the winger’s first appearance in the Premier League, having signed for the North London club from PSV last week and fans were certainly impressed with his contributions.
The Dutch international had established himself at PSV; scoring 31 goals in 149 appearances for the Eredivisie side during his time there, and he will no doubt be delighted to have notched on his Spurs debut. Bergwijn is unfortunately unavailable for Spurs’ FA Cup replay against Southampton in midweek, so he will have to wait until Sunday’s game against Aston Villa to make his next appearance.

Bergwijn is sensational, already in love. Ndombele is our best player, can’t wait for him to be fit for a full season. Tanganga already looks a pro, he’ll be an international player before long. The future is bright #THFC #COYS

We needed that win so, so badly! Bergwijn with a fantastic debut, Ndombele looked great when he came on, Lo Celso continues to ball out, the defence was terrific etc etc. City could have scored like… four goals, but terrific performances all over the pitch from us!#THFC #COYS

One fan even suggested that he could be a reincarnation of Gareth Bale, who established himself in North London and managed to produce 56 goals and 58 assists in 203 appearances.
Won’t ride on the Bergwijn hype-train yet, and too early to call him a star, but if he continues showing the same work rate in every game, we might see Gareth Bale reincarnation in him

These Spurs fans clearly enjoyed Bergwijn’s debut and will be hoping for a similar performance this weekend.
What do we think?
Bergwijn will be delighted to mark his debut with a goal and will no doubt give him a lot of confidence that he can match his excellent performances in the Eredivisie with similarly impressive displays in the Premier League.
