Spurs fans have flocked to Twitter to destroy Eric Dier’s performance in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa.
The 26-year-old struggled at times in the win at Villa Park, earning a disappointing 6.62 rating for his performance, despite his perhaps inadvertent assist for Toby Alderweireld’s equaliser in the first half. The England international has failed to really establish himself as a regular in Mourinho’s side so far this season, having made just eight starts in the Premier League, and averaging a disappointing 6.58 rating.
Since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2014, Dier has gone on to make 231 appearances for the North London club, contributing 11 goals and 11 assists. Mourinho was reportedly a big fan of the defensive midfielder during his time as Manchester United manager, so it is no surprise that the England international’s game time has increased since his arrival, however, if his poor form continues, then we could see him back on the bench in the near future.
Was Dier Spurs' worst player against Villa?
Yes
No
Reaction from Spurs fans to Dier’s performance can be seen in the tweets below.
Defensively spurs are a shambles. Toby is past it. I think Leipzig will murder us. Start tangay in middle. We was very lucky to beat villa. Our luck will run out against Chelsea too. Dier his contract needs to be terminated he is Ryman league class #thfc

I think Dier needs to go !
He’s simply not mobile enough !
Also his distribution is terrible for cm!
Him and Wanyama should be off in the summer #dier #THFC #COYS— G1smith (@g1smith_0) February 16, 2020
– Bergwijn was a great signing and he will be a terrific player for us now
– Unfortunately, it looks like Eric Dier has no real place in the team anymore.
– Still good to get the win and looking forward to Wednesday!#COYS #THFC

These Spurs fans were clearly not impressed by Dier’s display against Villa and will be hoping to see the 26-year-old benched for Wednesday’s clash with RB Leipzig.
What do we think?
Dier, who is valued at £27 million (as per Transfermarkt), has really struggled at times this season, especially in the Champions League where he has averaged a 6.17 rating, so it would be a surprise to see him start Wednesday’s match against Leipzig considering his performance against Villa.
