Lots of Spurs fans were fuming to hear that Daniel Levy reportedly scuppered any chance of signing Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish two seasons ago.

According to The Sun, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail (via Talking THFC), the Spurs chairman had negotiated a £6 million deal for the English midfielder, but the transfer fell through after he attempted to lower the asking fee. The 24-year-old is now valued at £31.5 million by Transfermarkt after his superb start to the Premier League season, with the Villa captain having averaged an impressive 7.43 match rating for his performances in the top-flight (as per WhoScored).

If the reports are true, then Levy has surely made a huge mistake on the midfielder, who, according to the report from The Sun is now attracting the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid ahead of next season. Spurs lost Christian Eriksen to Inter during the January transfer window and although they brought in Giovani Lo Celso, perhaps they would have had a ready-made replacement in Grealish had they paid the £6 million fee back in 2018.

Is not signing Grealish Levy's biggest mistake?

Reaction from Spurs fans to the reported news on Grealish can be seen in the tweets below.

These Spurs fans are clearly frustrated with the news on Grealish and bemoaned Levy’s negotiation skills in this particular deal.

What do we think?

Grealish has shown with his performances in the Premier League this season that he could have been a top addition to Spurs’ squad and for just £6 million, Levy will surely be kicking himself.
