Spurs fans have been discussing an image of Ryan Sessegnon in the gym after he was left out of Jose Mourinho’s squad to face RB Leipzig in Wednesday night’s Champions League clash.
The 19-year-old was not even selected for the bench for the game against Julian Nagelsmann’s side, despite the injury suffered by fellow winger Heung-Min Son earlier this week and he showed fans on his Instagram page (via Daily Hotspur), that he was working hard to improve in the gym after the match. The young winger joined from Fulham in the summer but has struggled for game time so far this season, making just eight starts in all competitions for the North London club.
Despite impressing on his last start in the Champions League, when he netted an equaliser in the 3-1 defeat against Bayern Munich, Sessegnon was clearly not deemed ready to face Leipzig in the first-leg game in North London. The England U21 international will no doubt be disappointed that he hadn’t done enough to prove to Mourinho that he should be in the squad, so he responded by spending the evening at the gym.
Should Sessegnon have been in the squad to face Leipzig?
Yes
No
Reaction from Spurs fans to the image of Sessegnon can be seen in the tweets below.
If anything i like how the players’ mentality has changed. Saw Hugo’s interview, he didn’t even wanna be man of the match. I see progress

His only problem is his confidence. He needs to take his man on. You can’t work on that in the gym

Some of these Spurs fans are clearly delighted with the 19-year-old’s attitude, whereas others suggest that he has to work harder if he wants to be in the first team.
What do we think?
Sessegnon can perhaps count himself unlucky to not have been selected in the Spurs squad to face Leipzig, especially with the North London club’s current lack of attacking options. However, it is good to see him working hard and perhaps he will show Mourinho what he was missing when they travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday.
