Spurs fans were less than impressed to hear Christian Eriksen’s reasoning behind why he wanted to leave the club during the January transfer window.
The 27-year-old completed a move to Inter last month and spoke to the BBC about why he wanted to move away from the North London club. The Danish international described himself as “the black sheep” at Spurs, saying: “I did get the blame for a lot of stuff, for being the bad guy. I read I was the bad person in the changing room, that ever since I said I wanted to leave, it was no good me being there. To be honest, over the last few years, if anything came up, any player would think about leaving but I was the guy who said it publicly.”
Eriksen’s contract had been set to expire in the summer, so Spurs were keen to cash in on the £81 million-rated midfielder last month and he was eventually able to join up with Antonio Conte’s side. The former Ajax man had struggled to find any sort of form for the North London club this season; averaging a disappointing 6.51 match rating for his performances in the Premier League, according to WhoScored.
Do you think Eriksen was treated unfairly?
Yes
No
Reaction from Spurs fans to Eriksen’s comments can be seen in the tweets below.
His performances and coming out public saying he was rejecting contracts doesnt wash with me us Tottenham supporters pay our money into the club to expect to see someone who can beat first man in corner taking and put a shift in week in week out .

Brought it on himself. How weak are outlet players that they were all so down after the CL final that it affected them this season? Liverpool used it as fuel. Our lot just melted and felt sorry for themselves.

He gets the blame for wanting to leave and his subsequent poor performances. All his doing and he knows it.

Seems to ignore the fact that his mindset was questions cos his form was so bad. Not sure he would have got same treatment if he was playing well

These Spurs fans are clearly not happy with Eriksen’s comments following his departure from the club.
What do we think?
Eriksen was an excellent player for Spurs during his time at the club – contributing 69 goals and 89 assists in 305 appearances – but he seems to have ruined any relationship with the fans after trying to force a move away and producing poor performances for the majority of this season.
