Spurs fans have been reacting to a post on former striker Mido after the club wished the Egyptian a happy birthday over the weekend.

The striker featured for Spurs between 2006-07 before making the move to Middlesbrough, then managed by current England manager Gareth Southgate. The Egyptian had impressed for the North London club during his loan spells there in the 2005/06 season, scoring 11 goals in the Premier League, but was deemed surplus to requirements at the end of the 2006/07 season.

After the club wished him a happy birthday on Twitter over the weekend, lots of fans have commented that they would like to see the 37-year-old back at the club, considering the injuries to Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

Who is more likely to start up front for Spurs this season?

One fan even suggested that the former Spurs man is better than Mohamed Salah. The comparison between the two is perhaps drawn from them sharing the same nationality. Indeed, the striker scored 19 goals in 61 appearances for the Lilywhites, which is substantially less than Salah’s 89 in 139 games for the Reds.

These Spurs fans perhaps jokingly suggested that Mido is worth re-signing, although having retired at the age of 30, it seems unlikely that he would make a return to Premier League football aged 37.

What do we think?

It speaks volumes about the current situation at Spurs that so many fans were quick to comment that they want to see Mido back at the club – and the sooner Kane and Son are back, the better.
